According to scriptures, on the Shukla Saptami Tithi of the Vaishakh month, Maa Ganga descended from the heavens, which is why this day is known as Ganga Saptami (14 May)

As per the Puranas, on this day, one should offer diyas in Ganga river to attain the blessings of good health and for protection from negative energies!
